Description
NAD+ (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, oxidized form) is a vital coenzyme found in every living cell.
It plays a central role in cellular energy metabolism by accepting and transferring electrons in redox reactions (cycling between NAD+ and its reduced form NADH), particularly in glycolysis, the citric acid cycle, and oxidative phosphorylation. NAD+ is also an essential cofactor for enzymes involved in DNA repair (PARPs), gene regulation and longevity pathways (sirtuins), and cellular signaling.
Levels of NAD+ naturally decline with age and under metabolic stress. It is widely studied (and supplemented via precursors such as NMN or NR) for supporting energy production, mitochondrial function, DNA maintenance, and healthy aging.
