Description

DSIP (Delta Sleep-Inducing Peptide) is a naturally occurring nonapeptide (sequence: Trp-Ala-Gly-Gly-Asp-Ala-Ser-Gly-Glu) first isolated in the 1970s from the cerebral venous blood of rabbits during sleep studies.

It is best known for promoting or modulating delta-wave (slow-wave/deep) sleep and normalizing sleep architecture rather than acting as a simple sedative. Additional researched effects include stress reduction, regulation of the HPA axis (lowering stress-induced cortisol/ACTH), and influences on other neuroendocrine functions such as growth hormone release.

Its precise receptor and mechanism remain incompletely defined; it appears to act through multiple pathways involving GABAergic, glutamatergic, and other neuromodulatory systems. DSIP is studied mainly as a research compound for sleep disorders, stress, and related conditions and is not an approved pharmaceutical drug in most major jurisdictions.
